Faculty Profile

Curtis Cooknell

Film & TV Production Instructor

Curtis Cooknell knew he wanted to be a part of film and television ever since he was 5 years old.  His dream to work in the industry has become a reality. During high school, Curtis got his first video camera and his company, Small Crew Productions, was born. In the fall of 1998, Curtis wrote, produced and directed his first film, a short titled A Snowy December. Curtis has spent years developing his own projects through Small Crew Productions, including feature films, music videos, documentaries and a television pilot.

Curtis graduated from the Toronto Film School's Digital Film & Television Production program in 2004, and started volunteering at Rogers Television in Durham Region in December 2005, where he had the opportunity to work all positions, including ENG Operator/News Editor, Teleprompter, Studio Camera Operator, Floor Director and Live Eye Camera Operator. He was also given the opportunity to switch and direct for both live and pre-taped TV. Over the years, Curtis has worked with Bee Telefilms as a Grip on a feature film, Marwood Forest Productions; as a Camera Operator on a short film, Helie Film Support; as a Location Production Assistant on the ABC TV series, Happy Town, and the feature film, Dream House; Digital Samurai as a Production Assistant for Auto Show TV 2010; BizClip as a Videographer shooting commercials for local businesses; Camp Green Acres as a Videographer/Editor shooting the camp video yearbook; ThatChannel.com as a Tricaster Technician; and Corus Entertainment as a Broadcast Production Content Operator.

Curtis has been teaching Television Production at Trebas Institute since April 2011 and has enjoyed every moment passing on his knowledge to a new set of students. Curtis also works at the OLG as a Draws assistant, setting up and operating the ball machines, operating the video switcher, editing draw videos and posting them to the OLG website, and announcing the winning lottery numbers live on CP24 at 680News.
