Montréal attracts people from all corners of the world making it a diverse place to live. The multiculturalism in the city is reflected in the gastronomy with restaurants offering food from any number of different countries. If you need a reminder of home, you’ll definitely be able to find somewhere that sells food from your native country.
Affordability
In comparison to many other cities, Montréal is extremely affordable for students. It’s estimated that students can survive on a monthly budget of around $1,000 CAD, making the city a much more attractive destination in comparison to other places in North America and further afield.
Getting outdoors
Attending college isn’t just about getting a qualification, it’s also about the experience. Canada is known as a top skiing and hiking destination with its snowy mountains and beautiful landscapes so take advantage of this by exploring Montréal and its surrounding cities. Montréal locals love exploring Mount Royal, a known hiking and running spot in the city which was designed by the same architect who made plans for Central Park in New York. Culture
If you’re not one for the great outdoors, Montréal has a range of other activities for you to get involved in including hundreds of galleries and museums such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and Space for Life, a set of museums dedicated to the natural sciences. If you’re a sports fan, you should also check out a Canadiens de Montréal ice hockey game. Canada is a big ice hockey nation, so this is definitely the best place to watch – and even get involved – with the sport.
Learn the lingo
55% of Montréal’s population are bilingual with the main languages being French and English. Students who come to study in the city often use this as an opportunity to refine their language skills by chatting with the locals. Don’t worry if you mess up, you can always speak in English until you rebuild your confidence! You should also note that the Quebec government offers free French lessons online, a valuable resource for those looking to start from scratch.
The job market
Although Montréal is known as video game hub, the city is also home to a variety of other industries including big data and visual effects, meaning those who want to seek employment after they’ve finished studying have an excellent chance of doing so. In addition, students who study the E-commerce and Online Business Management program or the Audio and Video Post-production program at Trebas Institute’s Montréal campus might have the opportunity to remain in the country for up to three years to look for a job or internship with the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).
Montréal: the film set
You might be thinking about studying at one of the various film schools in Canada.
