Ken Nguyen

Audio Engineering & Production

Ken is an award-winning educator, audio engineer and music producer. He has a passion for sound, MIDI and music technology, as well as writing and performing live music. Over the years, he has played at festivals and venues such as Downsview Park, The Opera House, and more.                              

After graduating from the audio program at Trebas Institute (with honorary distinction), Ken worked at a world-renowned stock sound effects and music production company where he was in charge of editing, watermarking, tagging, and uploading audio content to an online sales and distribution system. As an engineer at Sound Ideas, he helped record foley and build sound effects libraries for feature film production studios such as 20th Century Fox, Universal and Warner Bros.                              

His passion for concerts and live events eventually led him into the audio-visual industry, working at Presentations 2 Go – an AV company based in Toronto. As a Lead Technician, he provided specialized training and created educational materials for employees who were responsible for delivering, setting up and testing systems for private and corporate client productions.                              

Over the years, Ken has worked on musical theater productions, as well as numerous festivals such as Canadian Music Week, Indie Week, Open Tuning Festival and WayHome Music & Arts Festival. His various roles included being a Live Sound Tech and Stage Manager, arranging artists, backline equipment, input lists, riders, stage plots and more.                              

In 2022, Ken began working at Number 9 Audio Group, one of Toronto's most well-known recording studios. His duties involve tape transfers, running sessions for artists and voiceover talents, recording for animation and audiobooks. And in addition to his work on campus or in studio, he offers mixing services, sound design and scoring for independent film and media productions.                               

Taking great pride in his role as a mentor, Ken has been passing on his wide variety of audio industry experiences in his Music Production, MIDI and Digital Audio courses at Trebas Institute. In addition to his lectures, his contributions extend beyond the classroom, often volunteering his time in student endeavors in both audio and film programs at the campus
